International Conference at SKUAST-Jammu Concludes – Jammu Kashmir Latest News | Tourism
JAMMU, 16 October: Three-day International Conference on “Sustainable Agricultural Innovations for Resilient Agrifood Systems” concluded today at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Science and Technology, Jammu
The conference was organized by Indian Ecological Society in collaboration with SKUAST Jammu.
Prof. JP Sharma, Vice-Chancellor of SKUAST-Jammu and chief guest of the farewell session expressed his satisfaction for the success of the three-day conference. He also expressed his willingness to engage SKUAST-Jammu in an agreement and memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the universities whose scientists have been invited.
Professor Sharma focused on reducing cultivation costs, increasing water and fertilizer use efficiency and ensuring farmer safety during field operations. He also emphasized processing, value addition and marketing of agricultural products.
He asked the organizers to communicate the conference recommendations to planners, policy makers, stakeholders and relevant agencies for their effective and timely implementation among end users.
During the conference, Prof. Martin Qaim, Director of the Development Center, University of Bonn, Germany, Prof. ZR Khan, International Center of Insect Physiology and Ecology, Nairobi, Kenya; Dr. TVK Singh, Former Dean of Agriculture, Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University, Hyderabad, India and Consultant, ICRISAT’ Dr. Venkatesh Hubli, Director of Research, Savannah Seeds Pvt Ltd; , Dr. Rajesh K Anand, Advisor, IPL Biological Ltd; Dr. BM Prasanna, Research Program Director, CGIAR MAIZE & Global Maize Program, CIMMYT, Mexico and Dr. Mahalingam Govindaraj, Principal Investigator, CGIAR’s Harvest Plus, Program, CIAT, Columbia presented the key papers.
Dr M Kassie, Principal Scientist, and Dr Zeyaur R Khan, Principal Scientist, ICIPE, Nairobi, Kenya, Prof. KS Risam, Former Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu and Prof. the speech.
Earlier, Dr. SK Gupta, Registrar, delivered the official welcoming address. Prof. AK Dhawan, President of the Indian Ecological Society, briefed the international conference delegates.
