Kenya registers 234 new cases of COVID-19 as vaccination ramps up »Capital News

NAIROBI, Kenya, September 19 – Kenya recorded 234 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, bringing the number of cases in the country to 246,530.
The new cases were detected from 3,737 samples tested on Saturday, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said.
The positivity rate was 6.3%.
Kagwe said 1,433 patients have been admitted to various hospitals across the country, including 109 in the intensive care unit (ICU).
Kagwe said another 9 patients succumbed to the disease, but they all came from health facility audits in September, bringing the death toll to 4,989.
492 patients were discharged from hospital after recovering from the virus, bringing the number of recoveries to 237,295.
More than 3.3 million people had been vaccinated in the country as of September 19, including 858,936 fully vaccinated.
Kagwe said second dose absorption among those who received their first dose was 34.5%, with the majority 55% men while women were 45%.
The proportion of fully vaccinated adults was 3.2 percent.
Kenya is now rolling out five different types of vaccines after the arrival of the fifth vaccine, Sinopharm, from China on Saturday.
The vaccine made in China has arrived in a batch comprising 200,000 doses of vaccine and more are expected to be acquired through the COVAX facility.
The arrival of Sinopharm vaccines came just a day after the arrival of the Pfizer vaccine from the United States in the country, even as the government continued to step up efforts to meet its goal of vaccinating at least 10 million people. adults by December 2021.
The other vaccines deployed are Moderna, Astrazenecca and Johnson & Johnson.
