Kenyan President Kenyatta to be greeted by US President Biden – SABC News

Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta will today become the first African leader to meet with US President Joe Biden in the White House since his election as President. A White House statement said the two leaders will discuss the strong bilateral relationship between the two countries and the need to bring transparency and accountability to domestic and international financial systems.
In a delicate moment for the White House, talks about transparency and accountability in the global financial system come after recent revelations in the Pandora Papers that Kenyatta and six members of his family were linked to millions of dollars held in secret tax havens abroad. Beyond that, the two leaders will also tackle accelerating economic growth and climate change.
Kenya is reportedly the fifth-largest recipient of US aid with strong collaborations aimed at building the capacity of the Kenyan military in the fight against terrorism in the region.
Biden is also expected to pressure Kenyatta to use his country’s regional influence on the evolving situation in Tigray, Ethiopia, after the United States threatened to impose sanctions, including increasing the Addis Ababa’s eligibility for tariff exemption under the Africa Growth and Opportunity Act.
