Kenyans celebrate Eid in solidarity with Palestinians

Muslims in the Kenyan capital took to the streets in large numbers after Eid prayers in solidarity with Palestinians who face disproportionate Israeli violence.
Some protesters in Nairobi have said this year they will celebrate Eid with a heavy heart as Palestinians are slaughtered by Israeli forces.
“This is a very important day, a very important day for us, this year we ended our fast despite many challenges such as tough economic times which saw some of us stay hungry, not because of the fasting but because people have nothing to eat… another of the challenges has been brought by the effects of COVID-19, ”Hassan Abdi, 33, told Anadolu news agency.
“Anything we see in Palestine could have happened in Kenya, social media is full of posts from Kenyans calling for an end to injustices such as we are witnessing in Palestine, which is why Kenyans are on the streets today” hui to protest, ”he said.
Ragheb Omar, a businessman, said: “It is supposed to be a happy day for us but we are very sad our Muslim brothers were mercilessly slaughtered by the Israeli Zionists who attacked them during the holy month of Ramadan.”
Jacob Njenga, a Christian who had joined one of the marches, said: “Every year Muslims invite us to their festivities, even with the hardships of COVID-19 they invited us, I walk with them to support our brothers and sisters in Palestine to be free, all Kenyans condemn indiscriminate killings, we stand in solidarity with them.
Israel continues to target Gaza with heavy bombing so far, killing 83 Palestinians, including 17 children and seven women, according to health officials. At least 388 other people were injured, in addition to severe damage to residential buildings in Gaza.
To date, six Israelis have been killed – five of them in rocket attacks in addition to one soldier killed when an anti-tank guided missile hit his jeep.
