“Millions on the brink of starvation”
Actress Priyanka Chopra, who is a long-time associate of UNICEF, the United Nations agency that provides humanitarian and development assistance to children around the world, recently traveled to Kenya to help children and people in the country to obtain funds and resources for food and other basic necessities.
She also called on people around the world to support UNICEF’s efforts against Kenya’s hunger crisis.
In a video posted to her Instagram account on Wednesday, the UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador said children in the African nation are starving and funds are needed to fight the disaster.
She captioned it, “It may not sound like much, but the Nangolekuruk Village Outreach Site is on the front lines of saving the lives of young children and their caregivers in this area.”

“When children deviate from the growth chart, it means they are stunted, emaciated, and those words are very hard to hear anyway when it comes to a child. But that’s the way it is. that you’re describing malnutrition. It’s literally the wasting of a child and stunting,” the actress said in the video.

The actor is seen at camp wearing a UNICEF t-shirt and matching cap. The video also shows how camp officials measure the height and weight of children to analyze the level of their malnutrition. Children suffering from severe to moderate malnutrition then receive “therapeutic sachets”.
As a new mother, Priyanka said this situation hit her differently. “My mind is in a million places at once, I really feel on the brink. It’s been like that since I got on my flight from Los Angeles. I’m in Kenya with UNICEF to see firsthand the severe crisis unfolding. And as a new mother, it really hits differently. I know it’s going to be tough but I want to take you on this journey,” she said in another video she posted on Monday.
