More than 3,000 households will benefit from last-mile electrical connectivity – Kenya News Agency

Baringo South MP Charles Kamuren revealed that more than 3,000 households in his constituency are expected to benefit from the Last Mile connectivity program.
Kamuren made the remarks at the village of Yatoi in Marigat Ward during the commissioning of the second phase of the last mile connectivity covering Milimani and Kamagonge where he said that 54 similar projects have been rolled out across the constituency with the aim of achieving universal access to electricity.
The legislator noted that more than 150 households are expected to benefit from the commissioned network, while other areas of Ngambo and Mukutani will follow in the next phase.
“We need to connect the entire constituency to electricity as it is a way to deter criminal activity in our region which has also faced insurmountable insecurity challenges,” he said.
The first time an MP elected in a 2018 by-election said he would continue to seek the support of development partners to improve development in his region so that he could leave a legacy by the end of his mandate in 2022.
He urged the various communities residing in the region, especially those practicing irrigated agriculture, to make good use of these national government programs for their economic prosperity.
Regional County Assembly (MCA) member Nixon Lemlem welcomed the initiative, saying it was a step forward in improving the livelihoods of local residents.
Accompanied by officials from Kenya Power and Giza Cables Industries, Lemlem said that despite the other challenges of the poor road network in the region, electricity will come as a boost as it will open up small businesses such as Jua kali and food processing plants in rural market centers.
