Raila Trails Ruto in Latest Popularity Poll – Report

Vice President William Ruto is likely to win the general election in the first round according to the latest nationwide poll by Intel Research Solutions (IRS).
According to data released on Thursday, July 21, the DP was ranked as the most preferred presidential candidate with an approval rating of 50.5% compared to Raila Odinga’s 44.2% approval rating.
“Ruto is likely to pick up a first-round victory over his competitor based on the data. Nearly half of those polled nationwide would prefer William Ruto as president today.
“The changes seen in this poll are slight increases for William Ruto and Raila Odinga and a slight drop in the number of undecided voters,” the IRIS poll read.

The report also showed that the DP leads to Mount Kenya by a wide margin compared to Raila.
In Mt Kenya East, 72.4% of respondents preferred Ruto to just 22.6% who sided with Raila, while in Mt Kenya East, 70.9% would vote for Ruto, compared to 23.1 % who prefer the former Prime Minister.
In the Mount Kenya Diaspora (Nakuru and Laikipia) Voter preference is still aligned with voters in greater central Kenya. The difference in support for the two candidates is 37.7%. Ruto leads with 65.7% while Raila follows with 28.0%.
At Mount Kenya. Wajackoya enjoys a base of support hovering around the 2% figure while David Mwaure of the Agano party has a support of 1.5%.
Nationally, Wajackoya enjoys the support of 1.9% of the population while Mwaure has a support base of 1.1%.
In the Central Rift Zones, Ruto maintained an overwhelming lead with 81.8% support to Raila’s 14.3%. At the Coast, Raila is however in the lead with 54.6% against the DP at 40.2%.
The report further showed that more female voters preferred Ruto’s alliance with Rigathi Gachagua at 53.9% compared to Raila’s 40.9%. In the male category, many prefer Ruto (48.4%) to Raila (46.9%).
The IRS surveyed 24,599 respondents across Kenya via the electronic database SMS broadcast methodology.
