  • Unga is a manufacturer and distributor of a wide portfolio of animal nutrition and health products.

North Rift farmers can now access high-quality food after Unga Farm Care (EA) Ltd and the National Cereals and Produce Board signed a contract that will see the agency open its warehouses for distribution.

This partnership is aligned with the agricultural cluster model that the NCPB is establishing as part of the new reforms established last year.

“This partnership will allow us to improve the distribution of our product range by bringing a distribution point closer to our farmers,” said Dickson Jawichre, Managing Director of Unga.

“This will ensure consistent availability of our products for farmers in the region.”

Unga is a manufacturer and distributor of a wide portfolio of animal nutrition and health products. This portfolio includes livestock feeds, livestock minerals, premixes and feed concentrates, among others.

The platform will provide a one-stop shop for farmers to obtain agricultural inputs, agricultural machinery, agricultural advisory services and post-harvest management services, among other services.

NCPB Chief Executive Joseph Kimote said the collaboration will help farmers improve animal health and increase their incomes through the distribution of quality feed.

There has been an outcry from farmers over an increase in fake animal feed on the market and the new partnership aims to address this.

Last year, the NCPB entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Safaricom’s DigiFarm Kenya Limited to enable smallholder farmers to access information through the telecom operator’s platform.

As part of the MoU, the grain agency offers post-harvest management services through the DigiFarm platform to farmers connected to the app, allowing them to access commission services at prevailing rates.

DigiFarm is an integrated mobile platform developed by Safaricom that provides farmers with one-stop, convenient access to quality agricultural inputs, loans, advisory services, market links and crop insurance.
