Preparations for this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations in Kisumu County are on top.
Among those who are supposed to honor the occasion and give it pomp and color, there are musicians, with priority given to those from the greater Nyanza region.
Days away from the June 1 national event chaired by President Uhuru Kenyatta, the Luo area artists nominated to perform at the party are upbeat and ready to provide the best entertainment for the guests.
The Kisumu County Executive Committee (CEC) for Tourism, Sports, Arts and Culture, Achie Alai, joined artists and dancers on Thursday to rehearse the upcoming celebrations commemorating the day Kenya acceded to the independence.
“Madaraka Day will be a platform for artists to show their talents, which plays a role in embracing our rich and vibrant culture and ensures that we safeguard our national identity,” Alai said.
The selected artists will be responsible for entertaining the 3,000 people who will be allowed to participate in the event at the Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Mamboleo, Kisumu.
The Permanent Presidential Commission on Music (PPMC) has lined up famous and up-and-coming musicians to perform for the head of state.
